Merrill Marks America’s 250th Birthday with Patriotic Celebration

Merrill celebrated our Nation’s 250th Birthday in style over the 4th of July weekend, as locals, visitors and vacationers enjoyed community activities focused on remembering the sacrifices made by those who secured our freedom.

Shoppers flooded the City’s East Side downtown section on Friday, where businesses took part in a “Red, White and Blue Sale” event. Banker’s Square provided a perfect backdrop for all who participated. The Grand Stand Ice Cream Truck offered a variety of their top flavors along with holiday themed sundaes, Sunset Hollow served up delicious sub sandwiches, Boys Scout Troop 503 sold hot dogs, and Sargent Martial Arts provided a fun mini-fitness obstacle course! Bluejay 96.3 was also on site, playing a colorful array of Patriotic music. The day ended with a spectacular fireworks display at the MARC, with well over a thousand people on hand to take in the amazing sounds and colors.

On Saturday the 4th, participating churches throughout the area brought back a Merrill tradition as they all rang their church bells at 1:00 pm for two-and-a-half minutes in celebration of our nation’s independence and in remembrance of the community spirit that has long been part of the festivities.
